The Weimar Republic faced many problems that eventually led to its downfall. They lost followers because they followed the rules of the Treaty of Versailles. As well as many people didn't agree with constitution. Mussolini used pure fear to rise to power, as well as cruel tricks. He instated the Acerbo law, effectively giving him control of the government. He marched on Rome. He used his blackshirts to bully people into following fascism. He also made a deal pope Pius ensuring the catholic church wouldn't interfere with his plans, known as the Lateran accords.

After Hitler's stint in prison, he had a new view on the world. He described what his "perfect world" was, and he was determined to make it a reality. He became the leader of the anti-workers party, made the brownshirt paramilitary corps, and got elected to the Reichstag. He made the Reichstag pass the enabling act. Then when he was voted in, he outlawed all other parties. Elected chancellor by Hindenburg to fight the communists. He then made the Gestapo. After he was elected chancellor, all opposition were killed by the SA. A month later, President Hindenburg was killed and Hitler was elected President.
Life is beautiful is about life in pre-fascist and fascist Italy. It is centred around the main character Guido and his family as they struggle to survive throughout the holocaust and other such atrocities. It begins with Guido as a bachelor, on the hunt for his wife who he calls "the princess". Guido eventually finds her, and he takes her away to make a family. As the story progresses, the indications of anti-semitism come in to play and Guido must try as hard as he can to not let his son see them. They soon get taken to a concentration camp and Guido still tries to hide the horrors from his son. He tries until the very end, when the Nazis finally kill him and leave his son alone.
